Decorating a Romantic Bedroom with Flowers

by Julile Mulligan, 1 800 Flowers Senior Floral Designer

When I heard about the modern Moroccan theme that Be Jane was going for in Brely's bedroom I had a starting point. Seeing the colors and various pieces that were going to be used gave me the next bit of information that I would need to be sure that the floral accents would bring in the romance as well as everyday touches that would bring life to the room.

Modern is clean and not fussy while Moroccan is all about texture and color. The way that I combined these two was to keep the containers smooth and sleek but in materials such as wood, metal and mercury glass. The texture and color was brought in with the floral varieties that I used.

For everyday romance:

On the TV stand:

Tall sleek wooden chalice shaped vase that can also be used as a candleholder. I placed a single bright green cymbidium orchid in this vase.

A tall ceramic vase with a single monstera leaf with a coordinating larger vase on the floor next to the TV stand also with a single monstera leaf. These leaves will last for weeks and add a dramatic touch with literally no care needed.

On the night tables:

On one night table I used a short modern glass vase with a concave shape. I filled it a little more then have way with amber colored glass stones and filled it with water to the top of the stones and again placed a single cymbidium orchid with the short stem into the glass stones. The orchid sits below the top of the vase, which is a very modern design style.

On the other nightstand I created a more "designed" arrangement in a metal urn that included very flowers with lots of rich jeweled tones, shapes, and textures. Included El Toro and Black Magic roses, orchids, fringed tulips, hypericum, andilex berries.

It definitely created a "Wow" effect.

Turning up the "Romance Factor":

To add the ultimate element of romance I created a vignette for the side bench. Something that would encourage and invite a couple to sit down and get to know each other and hopefully lead to an interesting evening.

I chose a red lacquer tray in which to display the vignette. For the flowers I created a hand-tied bouquet of flowers similar to the ones used in the bedside arrangement but stayed in the red/orange color family and placed it in a red/gold mercury glass cone shape vase. For additional romance I added several votive candleholders with gold flecking and a bunch a grapes for nibbling and sharing. To soften the over all look I added a beautiful napkin that pulled in all of the colors.

In the end, it all came together beautifully: the flowers and vases perfectly complemented the amazing projects Brely, Heidi, and Eden worked on. Her room was transformed-and flowers added the finishing touch.
